Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Clarifies and Addresses Northern Palm Beach County Improvement District Election

West Palm Beach, FL – October 18, 2006 – The Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office has made clarifications to the Northern Palm Beach County Improvement District ballot.

Due to the misinterpretation between the Northern Palm Beach County Improvement District and the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Office in regards to the distinction between the Northern District and the Southern District, a change has been made to the election ballot. The current ballot lists the two districts separately, when in fact the election should be an at large election for the Northern Palm Beach County Improvement District. To avoid confusion in the future, District 1 and District 2 should be referred to as Sub-district 1 and Sub-district 2. The following actions will be taken by the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections:

        ·    Notification will be sent to voters in the 49 precincts of the Northern sub-district advising them that they are entitled to vote in the race for Seat 2 and will be given a paper ballot on which to cast their vote.

        ·    A separate paper ballot will be presented to the eligible votes in the Northern sub-district containing only the Seat 2 race.

        ·    In addition to the regular ballot, this paper ballot will be given to all eligible Northern sub-district voters who present themselves to vote by absentee ballot, during early voting, or at the polls on election day.

        ·    Voters in the Northern sub-district, who have previously been mailed an absentee ballot, will be sent the additional paper ballot, along with a letter of explaination.

        ·    The paper ballots will be tabulated and reported separately.

Results on election night for this race will only reflect the votes from the 65 precincts in the Southern sub-district, and not the 49 precincts from the Northern sub-district. Consolidated results for this race will be available the day after the election.
